When you hear the names of the most popular shows like Mirzapur, Sacred Games, OPS Special, what comes to your mind, I assure you that it’s the OTT platforms that made things entertaining and easy to share with the new generation. Remembering the history of a story was so hard, and how it has changed everything we look at now, we are more into OTT platforms than just Netflix binge. Now, recalling history is way too comfortable in other words, we feel it is happening in the same way it has happened before.

In recent times, the growth in the consumption of internet users is massive. The OTT sector in India witnessed a 30% rise in the number of paid subscribers, from 22.2 million to 29.0 million between March and July 2020, according to a report, so you can imagine how rapid it is. During the covid times, there was a large audience who moved towards the OTT platforms. The race was so much that Hotstar India is India’s most subscribed OTT platform, and so are the other platforms. It will be interesting to observe the different business strategies adopted by OTT service providers to attract more customers.

People want to stick only for the movies now and for all the genres, like exploring every kind of drama, romantic, or horror oriented stories. It also appeals to viewers, provided it is quality content that offers them a fresh or new perspective than what they see on television sets.

The rise is real; OTT media and its growth have been like a revolution. Its initial entry into the Indian entertainment scene is an exciting topic to study. In 2012, we had about two OTT media platforms, but now, as of Jan 2020. About 40 and more are getting added every year. Making the OTT industry worth $5 bn in size by 2023, Increased disposable income, internet entrance to rural markets, and OTT video adoption across demographic segments have been the key drivers of OTT market growth in India.

OTT is the upcoming future of written histories.
