In our journey through life, we may come across many roads. These roads could be long or short, crooked or straight, smooth or rocky but all these roads, lead to only two destinations, and that is success or failure. Deep Bajaj, the founder, and CEO of PeeBuddy & Sirona had a captivating discussion with Hardik Patni about his journey as an entrepreneur and the struggles of setting up a business enterprise from scratch, on a podcast series called “In conversation with”, hosted by Mitti Ke Rang.

Deep Bajaj has earned a position in The Economic Times 40 under 40 and Fortune India’s 40 under 40 lists and has won numerous awards such as National Entrepreneurship Award and Economic Times Innovation Award. Brands like PeeBuddy and Bodyguard are also founded by him and are part of his company. Sirona is known for solving unaddressed intimate and menstrual hygiene issues that women face daily. Deep earned his Master’s degree from The Australian National University, Canberra after which he started managing events from 2006 to 2010, and then he tried his hand at a startup of handmade carpets.

During events and when he was traveling for his startup, he realized that women face a lot of problems because of unhygienic public toilets and also that arthritis patients and pregnant women, especially the ones in their last trimester, found it more difficult to use the toilets. He wanted to solve this issue and in 2013 during a road trip, he came up with the idea for his first product, PeeBuddy, that enabled women to pee while standing. After speaking to customers and due to some personal experiences, he realized that there were no solutions to issues like period pain, for which they come up with India’s 1st herbal period pain patch and also Oxo-degradable disposable bags for clean and hygienic disposal of sanitary pads. They’re among the first ones to start talking about the use of tampons, menstrual cups, and panty liners. After that in 2016, they introduced bodyguards that consisted of products for families such as N95 masks, sanitizers, and disinfectant sprays.

Deep believes it is very valuable and important for any new company to have a very strong value system and to try and stay by them. His team speaks about menstrual hygiene at schools, colleges, and international forums and they also address underprivileged girls and commercial sex workers.

Deep goes on to explain that if one is trying to start a business, one needs to explore something new or become an expert in the existing market. he suggests the combination of the following three things:

“Rome wasn’t built in a Day” it takes a lot of time and patience to build something from scratch, but you should never lose faith. Deep follows “The 1000 day rule” which says that you have to work on your business for 1000 days, and if you give up before that, you’ll go in a loss.

Take decisions without thinking too much about the outcome. The outcome is never in your hand and there are only two outcomes, so you’ll either succeed or fail, so the only thing you can do is give it your best.

Be positive at all times, don’t let negativity pull you down.

He speaks about the importance of entrepreneurship and encourages people to conceptualize their ideas.

Sirona offers opportunities for college students through internships and campus ambassador programs because they believe students and youngsters can help break these stigmas and taboos by talking about the issues surrounding female hygiene and menstruation. Deep also encourages interested people, to join NGOs and organizations that help with these purposes.

At Mitti Ke Rang, we started with a COVID-19 community support fundraising, as an emergency response to provide a safety net to families. This will help them survive in the lockdown period. We aim to directly support these families by providing a minimum wage, through transferring the same into their accounts or partner with local NGO, Organisation, Fellow, or a Volunteer, and support them with groceries.
