The advancements of unlock in India and it’s effectiveness
India and in countries all around the world everyone is facing challenges in terms of dealing with this pandemic, COVID -19 at their level, it is difficult to measure the impact in terms of good bad, big or small.
Every country went on a global lockdown and each country has been coping with and addressing the issue in it’s own ways. In India, the first phase of Unlock 1.0 came after 68 days of national lockdown. Restriction in terms of staying at home and interstate or intrastate travel was still in place with subject to some permissions.
All business sectors were largely impacted in terms of customer base and revenue as the upliftment of lockdown didn’t still reduce the risk associated with the coronavirus, the panic and uncertainty was still clearly visible as there was no rush of people flocking to these places like malls, restaurants, and public areas. However, due to the lockdown. nuemorous new innovations and change in work style and business functioning took place in terms of daily need items getting delivered at home by local vendors, employees being allowed to work from home, which was though available as an option earlier, wasn’t encouraged much but today has become a normal work culture in most of the MNCs especially the IT sector.
People started exploring opportunities and got time with family and also to work on their hobbies and passion. We saw many home bakers and small scale business from home, that took a flight. The second phase of Unlock 2.0 came on July 31.
During the Unlock 3.0 and Unlock 4.0 phase India observed the restriction with regards to night curfews however, there was no more restriction in terms of inter-State and intra-State movement of persons and goods. No separate permission/ approval/ e-permit was required for such movements. This led to an increase in cases due to community spread and meeting the ends with medical facilities and aid became a challenging task in most of the states.
Unlock 5.0 was an attempt from the governmnet’s side to boost up the manufacturing activities amid the pandemic, “Make in India” was being marketed again and employment opportunities were being made, with the drop in employment and the GDP of the country, priority sectors had been identified and work started in the areas of furniture, air conditioner, leather & footwear etc. Crowd funding was also in full swing during the pandemic. Although the government has been trying to boost up the economy, there has been an adverse impact in terms of employment, people were laid off, and there were pay cuts, no bonus or appraisals are being given this year.
With Unlock 6.0, a strict lockdown was imposed to continue in containment zones and only essential activities were allowed. In all other zones central government issued guidelines in terms of states taking a call on reopening of private universities for research scholars, schools, and coaching institutes gathering of over 100 people.
The movement of migrant workers across different states by means of Sharmik special trains arranged by the central government saw a huge displacement of people in the country in the last phase of lockdown.
There is a definite need for vaccine and solution to overcome this situation. Until then, as it is stressed upon “do gaz doori (six feet distance), mask hai jaruri (wearing masks and staying indoors as much as possible) has to be new normal.
It’s been a year since the COVID 19 hit the world, over the past one year, various governments and agencies have been trying to bring the situation under control, while some attempts made were successful, others have been miserable. The advancements in Unlock has seen both a rise and fall in the number of cases, while numerous front line workers are fighting against the virus, let’s stay home and stay safe.
