Role of education in women empowerment

In this ever-present patriarchal society of ours, men have always been provided with a higher status in all possible aspects of life and are often considered as the superior gender. Women empowerment is a movement, an initiative to eradicate this very prejudice against women with the sole objective of making them socially, economically & politically independent of men.

So how does education chip in this maneuver of improving the status–quo of women?

“The content of a book holds the power of education and it is with this power that we can shape our future and change lives” a fine insight on how education is an important milestone to empower women was shared by the Nobel Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai.

Education gives a woman the knowledge to challenge the conventional pretenses of male superiority and their faux sense of supremacy. It shapes their thought process & educates them of their rights to equality & decision-making.

Education backs the female instincts with facts, it builds them a platform, becomes a voice for the hidden rebel to the traditional iniquities, and guides them towards fighting neck to neck, as equals to the so-called dominant sex. Whether in a remote village or an urban city, women are the moral pillar of every family, hence scholarly training of a woman can not only open a plethora of opportunities for the individual but will also help in the intellectual growth of the community.

In a developing country like India, where people still have uncertainties in affording basic amenities for daily life, reforms to eliminate the gender-based inequalities is still an on-going process. Following are some amazing organizations mentioned for their building steps towards empowering women by gifting them the power of knowledge:

YUWA- Founded in 2009, it helps girls from the age of 6 to 18 in the completion of primary education.

Shiksha Karmi- Started as a government introduced an initiative to teach young girls in Rajasthan and now has grown into a bigger, well-funded program.

CARE- An institution dealing with the educational rights of girls belonging to the backward classes such as Dalits or the Adivasis.

MKR (Mitti Ke Rang)- An organization working on the empowerment of single & widowed women by providing them with skill-based training for jobs.

From being an “almost non-existent entity meant to look good besides their men” to becoming CEOs of leading companies & presidents who run the country, we have come a long way from the atrocities of the past and still have a whole lot of ground to discover and conquer.

At Mitti Ke Rang, we started with a COVID-19 community support fundraising, as an emergency response to provide a safety net to families. This will help them survive in the lockdown period. We aim to directly support these families by providing a minimum wage, through transferring the same into their accounts or partner with local NGO, Organisation, Fellow or a volunteer, and support them with groceries.
