Introduction

Robots are everywhere from fiction to hospitals and dispensaries, where they are creating a great concussion on the health of patients and providing convenience to doctors and nurses. Robots in medicine assist by performing routine tasks, thus helping health professionals to focus on major responsibilities. They make medical procedures safer and less costly for patients. They can also execute surgeries in tiny places accurately and effectively.

Robotic medical assistants monitor patients’ condition and caution the nurses when human presence is required in the room, allowing nurses to manage several patients and other responsibilities at once. These robotic assistants also automatically enter records and data into the patient electronic health record.

They can disinfect hospitals and hence, ameliorate risks for infection of people entering there.

Why robots are being used for surgeries?

Crucial advantages of using Robots in surgery include:

  • Gigantic visualization
  • Strengthened mastery
  • Greater accuracy

Robotic surgery is a progressive form of laparoscopic (small incision) surgery where surgeons use a robot to conduct surgeries. The robot’s “hands” allow surgeons to operate in very tight spaces in the body that was only possible through open surgery earlier.

Compared to open surgery, robotic surgery entitles the surgeons to enact complex surgeries through tiny incisions. It results in smaller indentations with minor pain and scarring.

How is this helpful in the present scenario of this pandemic?

In the current pandemic situation, robots are playing a major role in fighting against COVID-19. They are not just benefiting patients but are also ensuring the safety of the doctors and health care workers in infirmaries. In the US, the COVID-19 patients are kept in isolation and doctors are using robots to check their health condition. Robots are furnished with a stethoscope, microphone, and camera.

In China, disinfection robot UVD played a significant role to curb COVID-19 infections in Wuhan. Many countries are ordering this robot from China to deploy them in their hospitals.

Robots are preventing direct contact of the doctors and nurses from the patients and hence, defending them from the coronavirus.

At Mitti Ke Rang, we started with a COVID-19 community support fundraising, as an emergency response to provide a safety net to families. This will help them survive in the lockdown period. We aim to directly support these families by providing a minimum wage, through transferring the same into their accounts or partner with local NGO, Organisation, Fellow or a volunteer, and support them with groceries.
