How to deal with solid waste?
The rapid growth of population and migration of people from villages to cities has to lead to the generation of Municipal solid waste at an alarming rate over the years. Due to lack of unavailability of place to treat waste and use of unscientific methods has caused an adverse effect on the environment and inhabitants living nearby. Illegal dumping of MSW on the river banks is one of the major cause of water pollution. Poor servicing of MSW collection is the most challenging issue faced in megacities of India. Hence there is an urgent need to move from traditional to scientific approach and sufficient amount of technical expertise for solid waste management.
Importance of 3R’s
To manage different type of wastes and have a green economy in a country it is very important to implement 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle )concept. Implementation of the 3R concept can provide a robust framework for minimizing use and suffering addressing to nature. The reduction of solid wastes through the application of 3Rs (reduce, reuse, and recycle) is important because the generation of enormous amount wastes have a huge negative impact on the natural environment. India needs special attention to promote and implement 3 R concept to lower the overflow of wastes and depletion of natural resources. Thus an ef ort to move with 3Rs concept design can change the human attitude towards production and consumption pattern which may be helpful in tackling solid wastes resulting from human activity as well as protecting the contaminated environment.
