Into the world of Digital Nomads
You would have heard about nomads, right? If not, nomads are people that travel around without a permanent stay. In simple terms — a nomad is a wanderer. But what are digital nomads? A digital nomad is someone who uses technology to make a living generally through remote working and travels around, they’re location independent. The world is their office. This could be the best lifestyle for a travel bug who wants to break the stereotypic 9 to 5 work life. The remote workforce has increased by as much as 140% since 2005. One of the main reasons for this is flexible work hours and the freedom to work from anywhere around the globe.
Digital Nomad Communities
Digital nomad communities are social platforms for various aspiring or existing digital nomads to connect with like-minded people and share their experiences and support each other. Some of the communities also give access to internships, jobs, and various location independent businesses. They are several such communities: Digital Nomad Community, Nomadbase, Find a Nomad, etc.
Digital Nomads earn their living by working remotely, just like all of us working in this COVID 19 Pandemic. They work using their electronic devices like laptops, mobile phones, pads, and new technologies. A lot of jobs can be done by working remotely is what we understood in this pandemic. A digital nomad can be a programmer, software developer, social media marketer, app developer, website developer, SEO specialist, and many more. All these jobs can be performed sitting anywhere around the world. Research by Stanford University has said that digital nomads are 13% more productive than their in-office counterparts.
Challenges being a digital nomad
Everything comes with its own set of challenges, so is being a digital nomad. It is not only about working at your favorite destinations, but it is also dealing with a lot of other issues like:
- Network: Good network and wifi are what we need to take calls, attend virtual meetings, and also to work. Forget getting decent wifi across the globe, it is very difficult to even get it across our house. So finding a reliable WiFi connection is a constant hunt in their lives.
- Work-life balance: Usually with in-office work, we have specific hours for work and the other hours for ourselves. But, being a digital nomad and given a chance to live our dream lives, it is very important to keep up the trust of the employer with the work. So, allotting definite time for the work and not procrastinating is the key.
- Paperwork across countries: Visa restrictions, taxes, and legalities across countries are things that we should take account of. All this is stressful.
Co-working spaces are go-to places for freelancers, digital nomads, and self-employed people. They are a great idea for those who collaborate with others or work in an office environment. It makes us feel less lonely, since being a digital nomad might often make us feel drained and lonely. Working with a bunch of people keeps us motivated and increases our productivity. It is also said to be a positive influence to work together.
More and more people are ditching their offices every year and starting to explore all the places on their bucket list. Would you not dream to work at the side of a beach or in a cafe with your pajamas on at your favorite destination?

At Mitti Ke Rang, we started with a COVID-19 community support fundraising, as an emergency response to provide a safety net to families. This will help them survive in the lockdown period. We aim to directly support these families by providing a minimum wage, through transferring the same into their accounts or partner with local NGO, Organisation, Fellow, or a Volunteer and support them with groceries.
