We all have come across advertisements of one or the other organization on newspaper, internet, T.V etc.making an appeal or requesting us to donate for a cause that they’re working towards and that any amount of donation will be appreciated. We applaud when a celebrity or any well-known organization/company makes a huge donation towards a particular cause.

However, when we make a micro-donation towards a cause we too are incidentally doing philanthropic work.

Micro giving or micro-donation is a small sum of money given to a charitable cause. Recently this form of philanthropy has become popular with the advent of ease through online donating. The micro-donation comes in handy as they make up for a significant amount of the population apart from the huge donations that are made by wealthy individuals and organizations.

Technology has assisted considerably in non- profit micro fundraising efforts. These organizations use this to reach a large number of the population seeking funds for the cause they’re working towards. They team up with a company or an app where a particular percentage of the amount will be donated to the charity on a purchased product. Like when you book tickets through the book my show website or app it asks whether you’d like to make a donation of 2Rs towards the feeding of malnourished children. Another example is AmazonSmile, a website that donates 0.5% of the purchase price to a charitable organization of your choice.

This (micro-donations)makes a greater impact and adds up quickly, taking the above example of Book my show if 1000 people are using it in a day and out of which if at least 900 agree to pay the 2Rs it creates 1800 in a day and around 50,000 in a month.

Philanthropy means to promote the welfare of others expressed especially by generous amounts of donation made for a cause. This kind of micro-funding and donations especially during a crisis such as the current pandemic act as a safety net and come in handy. Like the campaigns which raised funds for the migrant workers and/or some other which worked towards the animal welfare in this lockdown etc.

“A drop of water makes a mighty ocean”. Similarly, a small donation made by you can have a huge impact.

At Mitti Ke Rang, we started with a COVID-19 community support fundraising, as an emergency response to provide a safety net to families. This will help them survive in the lockdown period. We aim to directly support these families by providing a minimum wage, through transferring the same into their accounts or partner with local NGO, Organisation, Fellow, or a Volunteer, and support them with groceries.
