How humour writing as evolved and became a career
Humour is the thing that can be explained and also cannot.
Pretty strange right!!
As for some authors, it’s more like a feeling that comes from inside and can vary from person to person. Counter to this argument, many authors and even psychological theories have given the definitions of humour.
According to them, Humour is the tendency of experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement. And it also has a medicinal background, as the term ‘humour’ derives from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which taught that the balance of fluids in the human body, known as Humours controlled human health and emotion.
You must have listened to people saying, “This person has a good sense of humor.”
So what is the sense of humor?
It’s all about experiencing humor i.e be amused, smile, or laugh at something funny, and considered to have a sense of humor.
Generally, people who don’t have this ability are considered as inexplicable, strange, or even irrational.
Although humor differs for a different type of people which depends on various factors including geographical location, culture, maturity, level of education, intelligence, and context.
For example, young children like to watch Tom and jerry, Shinchan, etc. These types of cartoons have humor that is easily accessible by children whereas, satire, puns, and many more types of humor need maturity and understanding level.
Nowadays, humor writing, stand up comedies are quite famous with some notable comedians like Abhishek many, Zakir Khan, Kapil Sharma, Biswa Kalyan Rath, and many more.
The main reason that these things have become quite popular all because of high-speed internet and good mobile phones.
As before time also these type of shows were there. But many fewer people know about it. Now everything is available on Youtube, where you can enjoy these stand-up comedies anywhere and anytime.
Even we have a show called “Comicstaan” which is an Indian Stand up comedy television series on Amazon Prime which got popular around the country.
And if we talk about the first Indian reality stand-up comedy series i.e “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge” was aired in 2005.
And the famous “The Kapil Sharma Show” and “comedy nights with Kapil” which made him stand on 3rd rank in the most admired Indian personality list by the Economic Times in 2015.
So these things also have a long history. If we talk about Akbar Birbal stories where there is a problem faced by the great emperor Akbar and solved by Birbal mostly humorously and smartly. Then we have Tenali Rama and many more that are not comedians but their stories represent a good sense of humor.
Apart from this, performance art from Kerla is known as Chakyar Koothu, a type of highly refined monologue where the performer narrates episodes from Hindu epics.
It is considered the traditional equivalent of the modern stand-up comedy act, incorporating commentary on current socio-political events and also personal comments.
So we can conclude, humor writing is improving from ancient times and still have to improve a lot.
